Friendship Standards

Friendship is pretty important to me, and I believe it’s something that you need to constantly work on. I run into trouble because not everyone feels the same way; that I would do for others that which they would not do for me. Your friends can hurt you just as much as your enemies.

My Step Father passed away a couple of years ago. Not one of my inner circle came. I was devastated, and no one came?! There’s six of us in that circle. I was so hurt. I’ve moved passed it, and I still love them dearly, but part of me will never forget that.

I seem to either have different standards, or a completely different definition of the term. If I deem you to be a “friend”, I will be there for you, no matter what. I’m there to listen to anything you have to say, as long as you don’t lie to me. I expect to spend time with you, laugh with you, cry with you – if needed. I expect consideration when warranted. Kindness, caring – and dare I say? Love. I expect to be your cheerleader. I expect to be a kick in the ass, if you need it. If I need to call you out on your behaviour, I will – but it will always come from a place of love.

The world can be a harsh place and we all need someone to hold onto. Someone we can count on. Someone to listen. Someone who sees us as we are unable to see ourselves. Someone who will love us – all of us – flaws and all.
